Design Trends in 2009

Posted by Marian  Published in Miscellaneous

blueglobeI have been reading a lot of newsletters and blogs about design trends. One of the most noticeable is the use of White in both design and in basic white space within content.  I personally like it but I’ve heard that some Decorative Painters think it’s ‘plain’. I think that because we work SO very much with color, that white seems very blah by comparison, but think about it for a minute. Often a blah background will more effectively display your colorful works of art.

Even if White is far too boring for you, maybe it’s time for a wee bit of a redesign.  Think of your website in the same context of a shop window of a  bricks and mortar store.  If it never changed, there would be nothing new to look at.  If you’ve had your website for a couple of years, chances are you are not aware of the changes, new features and updates that are currently available.  Look around. Do a bit of surfing.  See What’s New.

Blogs – general info

Posted by Marian  Published in Blogging, Miscellaneous

I’m quite new to blogging so I try to learn a little each day.  What I learned in my limited time last week is that blogging is taking the internet by storm, and that there are many styles of blogs.  There’s a plain blog, like this one, there are magazine styles, which look a lot like a newspaper layout, and photograph gallery type blogs – used mainly to display images.  I only know a little about widgets but I’m getting there.  :-)   I will pass on my learning experiences to you and try to answer any questions you might have.

I’ve learned that blogs come RSS enabled – RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and you can subscribe via your  browser.  Of course, that’s another lesson but it’s fun learning new ways of doing things.

I have this blog set up so that you can register but be sure to use your full name as I will only be approving people I know.
